Dismantling
1. Raise the front of the vehicle.
CAUTION: Do not work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with safety stands.
2. Remove the front wheels.
3. Unscrew and discard the nuts securing the ball joints of the steering rod ends to the steering arms.
4. Screw an M12 nut onto each ball joint flush with the end of the threaded portion of the joint.
5. Using the LRT-57-043 tool, separate the ball joints from the left and right steering arms. Remove the M12 nuts and pull the ball joints out of the steering arms.
6. Loosen the bolt securing the steering shaft to the steering gear drive pinion.
7. Models with KV6 engine: Loosen the 2 nuts securing the steering gear heat shield and remove the shield.
8. Models with KV6 engine: Remove the 2 bolts securing the cooling system oil manifold to the cylinder block.
9. Models with Td4 engine and manual transmission: Using the LRT-37-050 tool, disconnect the control drive rods from the gear shift drive.
10. Models with Td4 engine and manual transmission: Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the gearshift drive to the engine compartment bulkhead.
11. Models with Td4 engine and manual transmission: Unscrew the bolt securing the P-shaped clamp of the cooling system hose to the intermediate reduction gear housing.
12. Models with Td4 engine and automatic transmission: Loosen the bolt securing the P-shaped clamp of the cooling system hose to the intermediate reduction gear housing.
13. Remove the 2 bolts and washers securing the steering gear clamp to the engine compartment bulkhead and discard the bolts.
14. Remove the steering gear clamp.
15. Remove the rubber cushion.
16. Unscrew and discard the 2 bolts securing the steering gear to the engine compartment bulkhead.
17. Disconnect the steering gear drive pinion from the steering shaft.
18. Install a container to collect the power steering fluid (PAS).
19. Loosen the bolt securing the pipeline bracket to the steering gear housing.
20. Loosen the fittings and disconnect the pipes from the steering gear.
CAUTION: Always plug the fittings and holes to protect the system from dirt.
21. Remove and discard the sealing ring.
22. Loosen the clamp mounting bolt securing the power steering pipes and loosen the clamp tightening bolt.
23. Models with KV6 engine: To facilitate removal of the steering gear, remove the right engine mount and lower the engine.

24. With the help of a partner, remove the steering gear from the passenger side of the vehicle.

25. Remove the dust cover from the drive gear housing.
Installation
1. Install the steering gear on the vehicle from the passenger side.
2. Install the dust cover onto the drive gear housing.
3. Models with KV6 engine: Install the right engine mount.
ENGINE KV6 - MODIFICATION K, Left cylinder head camshafts, Right engine hydraulic support.
4. Clean the pipe fittings.
5. Install new O-rings on the power steering system lines.
6. Connect the lines to the steering gear, but do not tighten the fittings completely yet.
7. Install the pipe mounting bracket onto the steering gear housing. Tighten the bolt, but do not tighten it completely yet.
8. With the help of a partner, connect the drive pinion to the steering shaft. Make sure that the position of the coupling is aligned with the pointer on the pinion tail.
9. Install and tighten the new steering gear to bulkhead bolts, but do not tighten them completely yet. Make sure the large washer is installed on the small bolt.
10. Place the rubber cushion and clamp on the steering gear housing.
11. Tighten the bolts securing the clamp to the engine compartment bulkhead, but do not tighten them completely yet.
12. Tighten the steering gear mounting bolts to 45 Nm.
13. Tighten the steering gear clamp mounting bolts to a torque of 45 Nm.
14. Tighten the supply pipe fitting to a torque of 18 Nm.
15. Tighten the return pipe fitting to 22 Nm.
16. Tighten the pipeline bracket mounting bolt to 10 Nm.
17. Align the steering gear clamp and tighten the bolt.
18. Align the pipes and tighten the clamp bolt to a torque of 10 Nm.
19. Tighten the steering shaft mounting bolt to the steering gear drive pinion to a torque of 32 Nm.
CAUTION: When tightening nuts and bolts, the weight of the vehicle must be supported by the suspension.
20. Clean the ball joints of the steering rod ends and their seats on the steering arms. Make sure that the protective boots are not damaged.
21. Insert the ball joints into the steering arms. Screw on new nuts and tighten them to 55 Nm.
22. Models with KV6 engine: Connect the oil coolant manifold to the cylinder block, install the bolts and tighten them to a torque of 10 Nm.
23. Models with KV6 engine: Install the heat shield, screw on the nuts and tighten them to 25 Nm.
24. Models with Td4 engine and manual transmission: Align the position of the P-shaped clamp securing the coolant hose to the intermediate reduction gear housing, tighten the bolt and tighten it to a torque of 25 Nm.
25. Models with Td4 engine and manual transmission: Align the gearshift drive with the engine compartment bulkhead, tighten the bolts and tighten them to 25 Nm.
26. Models with Td4 engine and manual transmission: Connect the control drive rods to the gear shift drive.
27. Models with Td4 engine and automatic transmission: Align the position of the P-shaped clamp securing the coolant hose to the intermediate reduction gear housing, tighten the bolt and tighten it to a torque of 25 Nm.
28. Reinstall the wheel(s) and tighten the nuts to 115 Nm.
29. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
30. Bleed the power steering system.
