Shift shaft seal (Discovery 1)

1. Place the car on a lift.

2. Disconnect the battery.

3. Raise the car.

4. Remove the exhaust manifold downpipe heat shield from the exhaust manifold.

5. Disconnect the oxygen sensor connectors.

6. Remove the catalytic converter.

7. Remove the frame cross member under the box.

8. Engage the downshift gear in the transfer case.

9. Place a temporary support under the transfer case.

10. Remove the transfer case support, mark the position of the speedometer cable bracket.

11. Lower the automatic transmission until the shift lever is accessible.

12. Remove the lever from the shift shaft.

13. Remove the shaft seal.

14. Clean the oil seal seat.

15. Install the central part of the LST114 mandrel onto the shaft.

16. Lubricate the seal and install it on the mandrel.

17. Install the outer sleeve of the mandrel and, tightening the nut, press the seal into the housing.

18. Remove the mandrel.

19. Reinstall the removed parts.
