Kick-down cable (Discovery 1)

Removal



1. Place the car on a lift.

2. Disconnect the battery.

3. Move the automatic transmission selector to position N.

4. Disconnect the kick-down cable from the throttle lever.

5. Loosen the outer nut of the cable adjustment assembly.

6. Remove the cable from the bracket.

7. Release the cable from the clip on the cylinder head.

8. Lower the cable down under the bottom of the body.

9. Raise the car.

10. Drain the oil from the automatic transmission and replace the drain plug.

11. Remove the exhaust manifold downpipe heat shield from the exhaust manifold.

12. Disconnect the oxygen sensor connectors.

13. Remove the neutralizer.

14. Remove the frame crossmember under the box.

15. Disconnect the dipstick tube from the oil pan and the torque converter housing, and move the tube to the side.

16. Unscrew the tray fasteners.

17. Pull the kick-down cable until the valve is fully open and lock the valve in this position.

18. Push the cable into the housing and disconnect the cable from the cam.

19. Using the LST 112 puller, squeeze the cable sheath latches and remove the cable from the box.

20. Replace the sealing ring.

21. Installation is carried out in reverse order. Make sure the cable is engaged with the cam. Adjust the cable.
