Review


The TDV6 engine is equipped with an electronic engine management system (EDC) from Siemens. This system is controlled by the eCm unit (engine control unit) and is capable of monitoring, adjusting and precisely regulating fuel injection. ECM (engine control unit) uses input signals from various sensors and precisely controls actuators to ensure optimal dynamic performance under all driving conditions.

ECM (engine control unit) controls the fuel supply to all six cylinders via a common rail (CR) injection system. The common rail fuel system consists of a fuel rail, which contains fuel under very high pressure, and six electronically controlled injectors. The fuel rail is located close to the injectors, which helps maintain full system pressure at each injector at all times.

ECM Block (engine control unit) uses the drive-by-wire principle to control acceleration. There are no rods between the engine and the accelerator pedal (the pedal is "uncoupled" from the engine). Commands from the accelerator pedal are transmitted to the ECM (engine control unit) via 2 potentiometers, which are located in the throttle position sensor. ECM (engine control unit) uses 2 signals to determine the position, speed and direction of pedal movement. The ECM then (engine control unit) uses this data, along with other engine information from other sensors, to achieve optimal engine response.

ECM (engine control unit) processes the following incoming information:
  • CKP sensor (crankshaft position)
  • CMP sensor (crankshaft position)
  • Temperature and air pressure in the manifold
  • Coolant temperature
  • Oil temperature
  • Air flow and intake temperature
  • Fuel temperature in the fuel rail
  • Knock sensors (one per cylinder bank)

ECM control output signals (engine control unit) are sent to the following sensors and actuators:


  • Nozzles
  • Viscous Fan Clutch Electromagnet
  • Electronically controlled throttle body
  • Turbocharger with electronically controlled vanes
  • Disabling ports
  • Fuel pressure control valve
  • Fuel supply control valve
  • Fan of the control system mounting box
  • Engine mounts
  • Electronic EGR system (exhaust gas recirculation systems)
  • Glow plugs
