Throttle Position Sensor (TP) 4.0L (Discovery 3)

Removal

NOTE: The throttle position (TP) sensor is part of the throttle assembly and is not serviceable as a stand-alone part.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

2. Remove the engine cover. For more information, refer to Engine Cover - 4.0L (12.30.50)

3. Remove the air intake resonator.

4. Disconnect the TP sensor electrical connector.

CAUTION: Never remove the coolant expansion tank cap when the system is hot, as steam or coolant escaping from the cap could cause serious injury, such as scalding.

Disconnect the coolant hoses from the throttle body.

• To minimize coolant loss, secure the throttle body coolant hoses with clamps.
• Release the throttle body hose clamps.

6. Remove the throttle body.

• Remove 4 bolts.
• Remove the throttle body gasket and discard it as no longer needed.

Installation

1. Install the throttle body.

• Clean the mating surfaces of the elements.
• Install a new gasket.
• Tighten the 4 bolts (tightening torque 10 Nm).

2. Connect the coolant hoses to the throttle body.

• Secure the throttle body hose clamps.
• Remove the clamps from the throttle body hoses.

3. Install the TP sensor electrical connector.

4. Install the air intake resonator.

5. Install the engine cover. For more information, refer to Engine Cover - 4.0L (12.30.50)

6. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

7. Check the coolant level and top up if necessary.

8. Use T4 to calibrate the new TP sensor.
