Removal and installation the steering wheel (Discovery 3)

Removal

1. Remove the driver airbag module. For more information, refer to Driver Airbag Module (76.74.01)

CAUTION: If the steering wheel timing marks are not aligned prior to removal of the steering wheel, they must be aligned during reassembly, the steering angle sensor must be calibrated using Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment and a four wheel alignment check must be performed. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.

Before removing the steering wheel, make sure it is adjusted correctly.

CAUTION: Make sure the wheels are in the straight-ahead position. Failure to do so may result in damage to components.

NOTE: Remember the position of the steering wheel in relation to the steering column.

Remove the steering wheel.

• Fix the steering wheel and remove the bolt.
• Disconnect the steering wheel switch electrical connector.

NOTE: Do not perform further disassembly if the part is removed only for access.

Remove the steering wheel switch.

• Remove 2 Torx head screws.
• Disconnect the electrical connector.
• Repeat the above procedure on the other side.

5. Remove the steering wheel cover. Release the 4 clamps.



6. Disconnect the wiring harness.

Installation

1. Connect the wiring harness.

2. Install the steering wheel cover. Secure with clamps.

3. Install the steering wheel switch.

• Connect the electrical connector.
• Tighten the Torx head screws.
• Repeat the above procedure on the other side.

Adjust the steering wheel correctly in relation to the steering column.

CAUTION: The correct installation of the clock spring is done by the yellow mark, which is visible through the window on the surface of the clock spring. If the mark is not visible, turn the clock spring carefully. If the resistance to rotation begins to increase before the mark appears, change the direction of rotation to avoid damage to the part.

Carefully install the steering wheel, engage it with the clock spring and align it with the steering column. Tighten the bolt. (tightening torque 63 Nm).

6. Install the driver airbag module. For more information, refer to Driver Airbag Module (76.74.01).
