Parking brake cable (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Raise the rear of the vehicle.

CAUTION: Do not work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with safety stands.

2. Remove the wheel(s).

3. Release the rear ashtray, disconnect the electrical connector from the cigarette lighter and remove the ashtray.



4. Loosen the cable adjustment nut.

5. Unscrew the 2 bolts that secure the cable mounting plate to the body and remove the plate.

6. Disconnect the equalizer from the adjusting rod.

7. Disconnect the cable from the equalizer.



8. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the cable to the body and subframe.

9. Release the cable from the retainer.



10. Remove the cable seal from the bottom and pull the cable out of the passenger compartment.



11. Remove the rear brake pads.

12. Using the special tool LRT-70-007, disconnect the cable retainer from the brake shield and remove the cable from the vehicle.

Installation

1. Install the cable in place and secure the sealing gasket.

2. Connect the parking brake cable to the brake shield and secure it to the shield.

3. Install the brake pads.

4. Attach the cable clamps, tighten the bolts and tighten them to a torque of 22 Nm.

5. Secure the cable to the chassis lock.

6. Connect the cable to the equalizer.

7. Make sure the adjusting rod spring is in place and connect the equalizer to the adjusting rod.

8. Tighten the cable adjustment nut.

9. Install the cable mounting plate, tighten the bolts and tighten them to 22 Nm.

10. Adjust the parking brake cable.

11. Insert the ashtray and cigarette lighter into the rear console.

12. Install the wheel(s).

13. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
