Centralized locking system - manual control


The central locking system has two to three manual locking modes depending on the vehicle specification. The locking modes are activated using the central locking switches on the instrument panel, the central locking/unlocking buttons on the front door or the locking/unlocking buttons on the remote control:
  • Internal locking mode
  • External locking mode
  • Double Lock Mode (for all models except those intended for North America, Japan and the Gulf of Mexico)

When the vehicle is locked from the outside, the CJB will flash the direction indicators once for 250 milliseconds. When the vehicle is double locked, the CJB will flash the direction indicators twice for 250 milliseconds, followed by a 250 millisecond pause. When the vehicle is unlocked using the remote control, the CJB will flash the direction indicators twice for 250 milliseconds, followed by a 250 millisecond pause.

The remote control can be configured by the driver to open a single door or all doors by pressing the lock and unlock buttons on the remote control simultaneously for 4 seconds. To change the mode, the vehicle must be unlocked and the remote control must have been recently removed from the ignition control module. To confirm the mode change, the direction indicators will flash twice for 250 milliseconds with a 250 millisecond pause between flashes. The vehicle will lock and then unlock in the selected mode.



When the single door unlock mode is activated, the unlock command from the remote control will unlock only the driver's door, the liftgate and the fuel filler flap. To unlock the other doors, a second command from the remote control or pressing the central unlock switch on the instrument panel is required.

Additionally, the dealer can configure a lock-while-driving mode and an automatic re-locking mode. All models have an automatic collision unlocking mode.

Internal locking mode


The interior locking mode is activated by pressing the central locking switch on the instrument panel once, or by pressing the central locking/unlocking button on one of the front doors once. When in the interior locking mode:
  • The exterior door handles disengage from the door latches to prevent the vehicle from being opened from the outside.
  • The CJB ignores the opening request from the outside liftgate handle to prevent the liftgate from being opened from the outside.
  • The vehicle can be unlocked by pressing the central unlocking switch on the instrument panel once, pulling out the central locking/unlocking button on one of the front doors, or by pressing the unlock button on the remote control once. The vehicle will also be unlocked if the driver's or front passenger's door is opened.

External locking mode


The external locking mode is activated by pressing the lock button on the remote control once. When in external locking mode:
  • The exterior door handles disengage from the door latches to prevent the vehicle from being opened from the outside.
  • To prevent the tailgate and side doors from being opened from the outside, the CJB ignores an opening request from the tailgate outside handle or from the central locking switches in the instrument panel.
  • The filler cap actuator locks the filler cap.
  • The vehicle can be unlocked by pressing the unlock button on the remote control once.

Double lock mode


Double lock mode is activated by pressing the lock button on the remote control twice within 3 seconds. When in double lock mode:


  • The interior and exterior door handles disengage from the door latches to prevent the vehicle from being opened from the inside or outside.
  • The filler cap actuator locks the filler cap.
  • To prevent the tailgate and side doors from opening, the CJB ignores the opening request from the tailgate outside handle and from the central locking switches on the instrument panel.
  • The vehicle can be unlocked by pressing the unlock button on the remote control once.

On UK, European and Rest of World vehicles, pressing the lock button on the remote control once will externally lock the vehicle (the exterior door handles will be released from the latches) and activate the active anti-theft system. On vehicles intended for North American, Japanese and Gulf Coast markets, pressing the lock button on the remote control once will lock the vehicle from the outside (the outside door handles will be released from the latches) and activate the active and passive anti-theft systems. On all vehicles except those sold in North America, Japan and the Gulf of Mexico, pressing the lock button on the remote control twice within 3 seconds will double lock the vehicle (the inside and outside door handles will be released from the latches) and activate the active and passive anti-theft systems. Centralized locking system - automatic modes


The central locking system has automatic modes that allow you to control entry points to the vehicle and ensure protection of system elements.

The central locking system includes the following automatic modes:
  • Mislock mode
  • Lock while driving mode (if programmed)
  • Crash Release Mode
  • Restart Lockout Mode
  • Protection mode against vehicle locking with doors open
  • Automatic re-locking mode (if programmed)
  • Transport mode

Mislock mode


The CJB detects a lock error if any door or bonnet is not closed when an external locking or double locking request is made. To indicate a lock error, the CJB activates an audible alarm that emits a 100 millisecond "beep" sound.

If a locking error occurs as a result of an external locking request made with a door or bonnet not closed, the CJB will not execute the locking request for either door.

Lock mode while driving


When the locking while driving function is activated, the CJB locks all doors from the inside at a speed of at least 8 km/h (5 mph), with all doors closed and the engine running. If the driver or front passenger door is opened and then closed when the vehicle slows down or stops and then accelerates again to a speed of more than 8 km/h (5 mph), the CJB locks all doors from the inside.

The drive-away locking mode can be activated or deactivated by your dealer using a Land Rover approved diagnostic system.

Crash Release Mode


When the ignition is in power mode 6 (ignition), the CJB will unlock all doors in the event of a collision that deploys the airbags. Crash information (the "no crash" message is replaced by the "crash" message) is received by the CJB from the RCM via the medium speed CAN bus.

The central locking system will unlock upon a collision and if the "no collision" message is not received from the RCM every 500 ms. Restart Lockout Mode


To protect the central locking motors and actuators from excessive load, the CJB has a re-engagement interlock function that limits the maximum operating frequency of each motor and actuator. All door locking motors are also protected by thermal relays.

Protection mode against vehicle locking with doors open


If one of the doors is open, the vehicle cannot be locked using the central locking button on one of the front doors or the central locking switch on the instrument panel.

When an interior locking request is received from the central locking button on one of the front doors, the CJB will centrally lock the vehicle and then centrally unlock the vehicle if one of the doors is open.

If a front door is opened and the central locking button on the open door is pressed and held in the lock position, the open front door may remain locked. When the open door is subsequently closed, the CJB will centrally unlock all doors.



Automatic re-locking mode


Automatic re-locking prevents accidental pressing of remote control buttons that could unlock and deactivate the vehicle's anti-theft system.

If, after unlocking the central locking system using the remote control, no door is opened within 1 minute (including the liftgate) or the remote control is not inserted into the start control unit, the CJB automatically locks or double locks the vehicle depending on the previously selected mode.

Transport mode


All new vehicles are shipped from the factory in transport mode. Transport mode replaces the traditional transport relay and deactivates a number of electrical systems and functions to reduce static discharge of the battery while traveling. When the vehicle is in transport mode, the 'transp' symbol appears in the instrument cluster odometer. Single door unlock mode is activated, and master locking and remote unlocking are deactivated.

The locking mode while driving is also disabled, but the collision unlocking mode remains activated.

To cancel transport mode, a Land Rover approved diagnostic system must be connected to the vehicle during Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI). Refer to the PDI guide for further information.
