WARNING: Use caution when draining oil as the oil may be very hot.
1. Make sure the automatic transmission selector is in the "P" position and the parking brake is fully applied.
2. Clean the area around the transmission filler plug.
3. Remove the gearbox filler plug.

4. Raise and support the vehicle.
WARNING: Never work on a vehicle supported solely by a jack. Always support the vehicle securely.

NOTE: Park the vehicle on a level, horizontal surface.
5. Remove the front undershield. Refer to procedure: Engine Guard (501-02 Front Body Panels, Removal and Installation).
6. Clean the area around the transmission fluid level plug.
7. Place a container under the gearbox.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Add 0.5 l of transmission fluid.
10. Screw in the gearbox filler plug. Tightening torque: 40 Nm
CAUTION: A new O-ring must be installed.
11. Connect Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment. Start the engine and allow it to run.
12. Using diagnostic equipment to monitor the working fluid temperature, allow the temperature to rise to 60 degrees Celsius.
13. Move the selector lever out of the 'P' position, pausing in each position for 2-3 seconds, then return to the 'P' position.
14. Raise the vehicle.
15. Unscrew the fluid level control plug in the gearbox
NOTE: The fluid level plug and drain plug share the same location on the transmission. The inner plug is for level indication, the outer plug is for draining.

16. When the engine is running, a small amount of fluid should drip from the fluid level control plug hole.
17. Screw in the transmission fluid level control plug. Tightening torque: 7 Nm
CAUTION: A new O-ring must be installed.
18. Install the front undershield. Refer to procedure: Engine Guard (501-02 Front Body Panels, Removal and Installation).
