Removal


1.
CAUTION: Do not work on or under a vehicle that is supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle securely.


Raise and support the vehicle.

2. Remove the wheel and tire.

3. Loosen the axle shaft mounting nut.

4. Remove the brake disc. For more information, refer to Brake Disc (70.12.10)

5. Loosen the axle shaft mounting nut. Discard the nut.

6. Loosen the tie rod end ball joint mounting nut.

7. Using a special tool, disconnect the ball joint of the tie rod end from the wheel knuckle. Discard the nut.

8. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor from the wheel knuckle.

CAUTION: Use a hex key to prevent the ball joint from turning.




Unscrew and discard the stabilizer bar nut.

10. Loosen the upper control arm mounting nut.

11. Using a special tool, disconnect the upper arm ball joint.

12. Using special tools, disconnect the axle shaft from the drive flange.

13. Loosen the lower ball joint mounting nut.

14. Using a special tool, disconnect the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle.

14. Using a special tool, disconnect the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle.

CAUTION: Excessive rotation can damage the lower control arm ball joint. The wheel knuckle must be supported at all times. Do not allow the wheel knuckle to hang on the lower control arm. Failure to do so can result in vehicle damage.


Loosen the upper arm mounting nut. Discard the nut.

NOTE: Do not perform further disassembly if the part is removed only for access.


Remove the wheel knuckle.

17. Remove the brake disc protective cover. Unscrew the five mounting bolts.

18. Remove the wheel hub. Unscrew the 4 bolts.

18. Remove the wheel hub. Unscrew the 4 bolts.


Installation


1. Clean the parts.

2. Install the wheel hub. Tighten the 4 bolts. (tightening torque 115 Nm).

3. Install the brake disc protective cover. Tighten the 5 bolts to 10 Nm.

CAUTION: Excessive rotation can damage the lower control arm ball joint. The wheel knuckle must be supported at all times. Do not allow the wheel knuckle to hang on the lower control arm. Failure to do so can result in vehicle damage.




Install the wheel hub with assistance.

5. Using special tools, insert the axle shaft into the wheel hub.

6. Attach the upper control arm to the wheel knuckle. Install the new nut and tighten it. (tightening torque 70 Nm).

7. Secure the stabilizer bar. Screw in a new nut and tighten it to 115 Nm.

8. Tighten the lower arm ball joint mounting nut (tightening torque 175 Nm).

9. Attach the tie rod end ball joint. Screw on a new nut and tighten it. (tightening torque 76 Nm).

10. Install the new axle shaft nut and tighten it lightly.

11. Install the wheel speed sensor. Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm.

12. Install the brake disc. For more information, refer to Brake Disc (70.12.10)

13. Tighten the new axle shaft nut. (tightening torque 350 Nm). Secure the nut to the axle shaft.

14. Install the wheel with the tire. Tighten the wheel mounting nuts to a torque of 140 Nm.
