Removal


1.
CAUTION: Do not work on a vehicle supported solely by a jack. Always place reliable supports under the vehicle.


Raise and support the vehicle.

2.
NOTE: Set the steering to the straight-ahead position.


Disconnect the universal joint from the steering gear. Remove the bolt and discard it.

3. Remove the left and right front mudguards. Remove the 8 clips.

NOTE: Left side shown, same for right side.


Loosen the ball joints on both tie rod ends.
  • Loosen the lock nut.
  • Disconnect both tie rods from the ends, mark the number of turns for installation.

5. Remove the radiator access panel. Remove the four bolts.

6. Loosen the power steering line support bracket. Remove the bolt.

CAUTION: Before disconnecting or removing components, clean the area around mating surfaces and connections. Plug open connections to prevent contamination.


NOTE: Some liquid will inevitably spill out during this operation.


Disconnect the power steering lines.
  • Place a container underneath to collect any leaking liquid.
  • Remove the clamp.
  • Remove the bolt and discard it.
  • Discard the sealing rings.

8. Remove the steering gear. Unscrew the two bolts and discard the nuts.

Installation


1. Install the steering gear.
  • Clean the mating surfaces of the elements.
  • Use new nuts and tighten the nuts and bolts to 175 Nm.

2. Install the power steering lines.
  • Clean the mating surfaces of the elements.
  • Install new O-rings.
  • Install the clamp.
  • Tighten the new bolt to 25 Nm.

3. Secure the power steering line support bracket. Install the bolt.

4. Attach the universal joint to the steering gear. Screw in a new self-locking bolt and tighten to 25 Nm.

5. Install the radiator access panel. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm.

6. Install the mudguards. Install the clamps.

7. Connect the ball joints of the tie rod ends.
  • Connect both steering rods according to the previously marked position.
  • Tighten the lock nut on the tie rod.

8. Top up the power steering system with working fluid and remove the air from the system. For more information, refer to Filling the power steering system and removing air from it.

9. Adjust the front wheel alignment angles.
