Removal


NOTE: The backing plate and crankshaft rear oil seal are supplied as a single unit and cannot be separated.


1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

2.
CAUTION: Never work on a vehicle supported solely by a jack. Always support the vehicle securely.


Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Remove the CKP sensor ring. For more information, refer to Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Pulse Wheel (18.30.14)

4. Remove the crankshaft support plate. Remove 14 bolts.

Installation


1.
CAUTION: Seals must be installed dry.


CAUTION: Tighten the support plate to cylinder block mounting bolts first.


Install the crankshaft support plate.
  • Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
  • Install the oil seal retainer onto the crankshaft together with the protective sleeve. Position the oil seal retainer on the oil pan flange.
  • Insert the oil seal retainer pins into the cylinder block and lightly tighten the 2 bolts on opposite sides of the retainer.
  • Remove the oil seal protective sleeve.
  • Insert the remaining bolts and tighten them evenly. (tightening torque 10 Nm).

2. Install the CKP sensor ring onto the crankshaft. For more information, refer to Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Pulse Wheel (18.30.14)

3. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.
