Pressure reducing valve of the lubrication system (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Remove the lower part of the front timing belt cover.

2. Unscrew the plug and dispose of the sealing washer.

3. Remove the spring with the pressure reducing valve.

CAUTION: Take measures to protect the timing belt from oil.

4. Check the freedom of movement of the valve in the hole and make sure that there are no burrs or corrosion on the valve body.

NOTE: Corrosion can be removed with 600 grit sandpaper dampened with motor oil.

5. Measure the length of the spring in its free state.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS, Engine - petrol K1.8.

ATTENTION: If obvious scoring is detected on the valve body and if the length of the spring in the free state is less than the permissible value, the pressure relief valve must be replaced entirely. If scoring is detected in the valve channel, the oil pump assembly must be replaced.

Installation

1. Remove any remaining sealant from the threaded portion of the plug and from the threaded hole.

CAUTION: Do not use a tap (for cleaning threads).

2. Lubricate the valve and spring with engine oil.

3. Install the valve with spring.

4. Place a new sealing washer on the plug and apply STC 50552 sealant to the threaded portion of the plug.

5. Screw in the plug and tighten it to a torque of 25 Nm.

6. Install the lower part of the timing belt cover.

7. Check the engine oil level and top up if necessary.
