Removing
1. Disconnect the wire "masses" from the battery. For more information refer to Specification.
2. Remove the individual ignition coil. For more information, refer to Ignition Coil with Spark Plug (18.20.44)
3. Remove the remaining individual coils.
4. Remove the oil level gauge and tube.
- Remove the dipstick.
- Remove the nut.
- Discard the O-ring.
5. Disconnect the engine wiring harness from the support bracket.
6. Disconnect the variable valve timing solenoid valve electrical connector (VCT).
7. Disconnect the breather from the cylinder head cover.

NOTE: Note the location of the bolts before removing them.
Remove the cylinder head cover. Turn out 14 bolts of fastening of a cover of a head of cylinders.
9. Remove and discard cylinder head cover gaskets.

NOTE: Do not proceed with further disassembly if the part is being removed only for access.
Remove the oil filler pipe. Remove the O-ring and discard it.
Installation
1. Install the oil filler tube. Install the sealing ring.
2. Install new seals in the holes in the cylinder head cover.
3. Install a new cylinder head cover gasket.

NOTE: Apply two strips of silicone gasket sealant as shown. The sealant strips should be 3 mm in diameter and 12 mm long. Install the cylinder head cover immediately after applying the sealant. The cylinder head cover must be installed directly on the head without smearing the sealant on the gasket.
Install the cylinder head cover. Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
5. Screw bolts of a cover of a head of cylinders.
- Screw in the cylinder head cover bolts in accordance with their previous location.
- Tighten the bolts in the order shown in the figure.
- Tighten the bolts (tightening torque 12 Nm).
6. Mate the variable valve timing solenoid valve electrical connector (VCT).
7. Attach the engine wiring harness to the support bracket.
8. With assistance, install the oil level gauge and tube.
- Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
- Install the sealing ring.
- Lubricate the seal with clean engine oil.
- tighten the nut (tightening torque 6 Nm).
10. Install the remaining individual ignition coils.
