Oil pump — removal and installation (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Remove the timing belt.

ENGINE - MODIFICATION K, volume 1.8, Front exhaust camshaft oil seal, Timing belt.

2. Remove the crankshaft pinion gear.

3. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the engine harness to the oil pump.

4. Remove the lower bolt from the front engine cover (also known as the rear timing belt cover).

4. Remove the lower bolt from the front engine cover (also known as the rear timing belt cover).

5. Mark the location of the M6x20 'A' bolt and, in the sequence shown in the figure, remove and discard the 9 oil pump mounting bolts to the cylinder block.

6. To remove the pump, release the rear cover.

7. Remove the oil pump, remove and discard the gasket.

NOTE: The pump body is mounted on pins.

8. Remove the front crankshaft oil seal from the oil pump and discard the seal.

Installation

1. Clean the oil pump and mating surfaces.

2. Wipe the sealing surface of the crankshaft.

3. Install a new gasket, install the oil pump.

CAUTION: Gaskets must be installed dry.

4. Screw in new bolts, making sure that the M6x20 bolt is in position 'A'. Tighten the oil pump mounting bolts to 10 Nm in the sequence shown in the figure.

5. Screw in the front engine cover (rear timing belt cover) mounting bolt and tighten it to a torque of 9 Nm.

6. Place the engine wiring harness on the oil pump, install the bolts and tighten them to 10 Nm.
